I am in the camp – that the future of broad pages, magazines and books is in the digital format. This is self-evident today more than ever. Print is looking at a significant battle. It is being attacked from all sides – citizen journalists, blogs, video’s and the digital format. You can say it’s the makings of the perfect storm. The publications that stand to survive are the ones that adapt – and adapt quickly.
Thankfully, many are adapting and embracing the digital format. This is not only due to the scalability of economics but to the popularity of the eReader – the Kindle to be exact. There are more tablets to come in 2010 – the Apple Slate, the Microsoft Courier and the Google Slate, to just name the more popular. This will continue the rapid adoption of the digital format. I also see future eReader’s and tablets adopting MIT’s Thin LCD technology. This will make usability the primary push in this space.
I just keep thinking about my son. I am already beginning to read to him. I am grabbing a few books to accomplish this but what if I had an eReader or a print in digital format. Then I could have dozens of books in one place – one device. That is very attractive.
I like what Bonnier’s R&D Group is demonstrating in this video. I am certain that you will find it very curious.
